About Read PDF aloud

Read PDF aloud turns a document into speech so you can listen instead of reading: a report on the way to work, a long contract while you rest your eyes, study notes while you revise, or any text when reading is hard because of dyslexia, low vision or fatigue. Nopload works out the reading order first, so headings, paragraphs and list items are read in sequence rather than in the order the PDF happens to store them, and running text across columns and pages flows naturally. The paragraph being read is highlighted and, with most voices, so is each word, so you can follow along on screen.

Why your files stay private

Listening is often for things you’d rather not share: letters, medical results, contracts, exam material. The text is extracted and spoken on your device, and the PDF never leaves it.

Read PDF aloud: common questions

Which voices can I use?
The ones your device has for the document’s language. Windows, macOS, Android and iOS include several, and you can add more in your system’s speech or accessibility settings. The voice menu shows those that match the language of the text.
Is my document sent anywhere to be read?
The text is read on your device. A few browsers also list online voices, which send each sentence to the browser maker’s speech service; Nopload prefers local voices and lists them first.
Why isn’t every word highlighted?
Some voices don’t report where each word starts. With those, the paragraph being read is highlighted but not the single word. Trying another voice usually brings word highlighting back.
Can it read a scanned PDF?
A scan is a picture of text, with nothing to read aloud. Run OCR PDF on it first to add a text layer, then open the result here.
Can I save the speech as an audio file?
Not yet: the browser speaks the text directly and doesn’t hand the sound to the page. For now, listen here while Nopload is open; reading continues while you scroll or switch to other tabs.
