  • Protect PDF

Encrypt a PDF with a password and set permissions.

Protect PDF encrypts a document with AES-256, so it can only be opened with the password you set. You can also restrict what people may do once it's open, such as printing it, copying its text or editing it. Each protected file is checked against your password before you get it, so you never receive a file that won't open. Several files can share one password, which is handy for a set of documents sent together.

  • Unlock PDF

Remove the password from a PDF you can open.

Unlock PDF removes the password and encryption from a PDF you can already open, so you don't have to type the password every time and other tools can work on it. It's for your own files, like a statement your bank protects with your date of birth. It does not guess or crack passwords. Once unlocked, the copy can be merged, compressed, signed or converted like any other PDF, and printed or archived without the password getting in the way. Keep the unlocked copy somewhere private, since anyone who has it can now open it.

  • Redact PDF

Permanently black out text and areas. Hidden content is removed, not covered.

Redact PDF removes information for good, not just visually. Mark areas by dragging, or search for words and phrases, emails, phone numbers and long numbers and mark every match at once. The text, image pixels and shapes under each mark are deleted from the page and a black box takes their place. The rest of the page stays real, searchable text.

  • Sign PDF

Draw, type or upload your signature and place it on pages.

Sign PDF puts your handwritten-style signature on a document, quickly and without printing and scanning. Draw it with a mouse, finger or stylus, type your name and pick a style, or upload a picture of your signature. Add initials and today's date too, place them anywhere, resize them, and repeat them on every page in one step. If you have a certificate file, you can also add a certificate-based digital signature that shows whether the file changes later.

  • Compare PDF

See what changed between two versions, in text and side by side.

Compare PDF shows exactly what changed between two versions of a document, such as a contract before and after the other side's edits. Text changes are listed with additions and removals highlighted, a visual overlay shows differences in layout and images, and a side-by-side view lets you read both versions together. Pages are matched by content, so an inserted page doesn't throw everything off. It's useful for checking a revised quote, a new version of terms and conditions or a document that came back from proofreading.
