About Unlock PDF
Unlock PDF removes the password and encryption from a PDF you can already open, so you don't have to type the password every time and other tools can work on it. It's for your own files, like a statement your bank protects with your date of birth. It does not guess or crack passwords. Once unlocked, the copy can be merged, compressed, signed or converted like any other PDF, and printed or archived without the password getting in the way. Keep the unlocked copy somewhere private, since anyone who has it can now open it.
Why your files stay private
Decrypting a file on a website usually means giving that site both the file and its password. Here decryption runs in your browser with qpdf compiled to WebAssembly, so neither the PDF nor the password leaves your device. There is no account to create and no history of the files you unlocked.
Unlock PDF: common questions
- Can you unlock a PDF if I forgot the password?
- No. Nopload only removes a password you know. It doesn't try to break or guess passwords.
- Is my password stored anywhere?
- No. The password is used in your browser to decrypt the file and isn't saved, logged or sent anywhere, even in workflows.
- Does unlocking change the content?
- No. The pages, text and images stay exactly the same; only the encryption is removed.
- Can I protect the file again later?
- Yes. Use Protect PDF to set a new password and choose what people may do with the file.
- Can I unlock several PDFs at once?
- Yes, if they share a password: add them together, type it once, and download the unlocked copies one by one or as a ZIP.
