How to use Redact PDF

  1. 01Open the PDF that contains information you need to remove.
  2. 02Drag over areas to mark them, or search for text and use the quick marks for emails, phone numbers and long numbers. Review every mark.
  3. 03Press Redact PDF and download the redacted copy. Keep the original somewhere safe if you still need it.

About Redact PDF

Redact PDF removes information for good, not just visually. Mark areas by dragging, or search for words and phrases, emails, phone numbers and long numbers and mark every match at once. The text, image pixels and shapes under each mark are deleted from the page and a black box takes their place. The rest of the page stays real, searchable text.

Why your files stay private

Sending a document to a website to hide its secrets defeats the purpose. Redaction in Nopload runs with PDFium compiled to WebAssembly inside your browser, so the unredacted file never leaves your device.

Redact PDF: common questions

Why not just draw a black box with a PDF editor?
A drawn box only covers the text, which can still be selected and copied out from underneath. Redaction deletes the content under the box from the file itself.
What if text I searched for appears elsewhere, like in a comment?
After redacting, Nopload searches the whole result again. If the text is still anywhere, such as a note or form field outside your marks, nothing is saved and you're told to mark those places too.
Why does a page sometimes look slightly different?
If a page can't be cleaned in place, it is rebuilt as an image at the resolution you chose, so nothing hidden survives. Other pages keep their text.
Which resolution should rebuilt pages use?
200 DPI suits most documents. Choose 300 DPI for small print or fine drawings, or 150 DPI for a smaller file. Pages cleaned in place are not affected.
Can a redaction be undone?
Not in the redacted file: the content is gone. That's the point, so check your marks before saving, and keep the original private.
