About PDF attachments
A PDF can carry other files inside it: the spreadsheet behind a report's tables, the XML of an e-invoice, source images or earlier versions. PDF attachments works with these files in three ways. Attach adds any files you choose to a PDF, where readers list them in their attachments panel. Extract saves every file a PDF contains, including files attached to notes on its pages. Remove deletes them all, so a document can be shared without the extra data inside it.
Why your files stay private
Attached files are often the most sensitive part of a PDF: raw data, drafts, source files. Attaching, extracting and removing all happen in your browser, so neither the PDF nor what's inside it is uploaded to Nopload.
PDF attachments: common questions
- Which files can I attach?
- Common documents, spreadsheets, presentations, images, text, XML, JSON and ZIP archives. Each keeps its name, type and date, so whoever opens the PDF can save it again.
- Where do readers show attachments?
- Most desktop readers have an attachments or paperclip panel. The viewers built into browsers often don't show them, which is one reason to extract them here.
- Why remove attachments before sharing?
- Attached files travel silently with the PDF. They may hold drafts, raw data or personal details the recipient shouldn't get. Removing them leaves only the pages.
- Are existing attachments kept when I attach more?
- Yes. Attaching adds to what the PDF already holds, such as the XML of an e-invoice. Only Remove deletes attachments.
- Can a PDF/A file have attachments?
- PDF/A-3 allows any attached file, PDF/A-2 only other PDF/A files and PDF/A-1 none. Adding files to an archived PDF can therefore change which level it meets.
