About Add watermark

Add watermark stamps text or an image across the pages of a PDF: a DRAFT or CONFIDENTIAL label, a company logo, or a note saying who a copy was sent to. Control its size, colour, opacity and angle, place it in any of nine positions or repeat it across the whole page, and choose whether it sits over or under the content.

Why your files stay private

Watermarking is often done just before sending a document outside, which is exactly when it shouldn't take a detour through an unknown server. The stamp is applied in your browser and the file never leaves your device.

Add watermark: common questions

Over or under the content: what's the difference?
Over the content is drawn on top and is hard to miss. Under the content sits behind text and pictures, so it shows only on blank areas and keeps the page easy to read.
Can a watermark be removed?
A watermark is added to the page content, so it survives printing and copying, but a determined person with a PDF editor can remove it. It is a deterrent, not protection; for that, use Protect PDF.
Which image formats can I use?
Any image your browser can open, such as PNG or JPG. A PNG with a transparent background gives the cleanest look for logos.
Can I watermark only some pages?
Yes. Enter the pages in the Pages box, for example 1, 3-5, or leave it empty to stamp every page.
What does “Repeat across the page” do?
It tiles the text or image over the whole page, which makes the watermark much harder to crop out of a screenshot or a photo of the page.
