About Edit PDF metadata
Edit PDF metadata changes the document properties a PDF carries: the title that shows in a browser tab and in search results, the author, the subject and the keywords. It can also remove them all, together with the XMP packet, page metadata and the private data some editors leave behind, which is useful before you publish or send a file. Properties are written to both places readers look, the document information and the XMP, so every app shows the same values.
Why your files stay private
Metadata often reveals more than the pages do: names, company software, editing dates. Changing or removing it happens in your browser, so the file you are cleaning up is never uploaded to Nopload or anyone else.
Edit PDF metadata: common questions
- Why does the title matter?
- Browsers show a PDF's title instead of its file name in the tab, and search engines often use it as the headline of a result. An export may have left a title like “Microsoft Word - draft3.docx”, which looks careless when the file is shared.
- What exactly does Remove all metadata take out?
- Every document property (title, author, subject, keywords, the app that made the file, the producer and the dates), the XMP metadata packet, metadata attached to single pages and the private data some editors store. The pages themselves don't change.
- Will a PDF/A file stay PDF/A?
- When you edit properties, the PDF/A identification in the XMP is kept, so the file still declares its level. Removing all metadata deletes the XMP, which PDF/A requires, so use Edit properties for archive files.
- Can I see the current values first?
- Open the file in any PDF reader and look at its document properties. Nopload keeps every field you leave blank exactly as it was, so you only type what should change.
- Is the content changed?
- No. Only the document information and the XMP are rewritten; text, images, links and form fields stay as they are. A digital signature will no longer verify, because any change to a signed file breaks it.
