How to use Chat with PDF

About Chat with PDF

Chat with PDF lets you ask a document questions in plain words and get answers you can check. Every answer shows the pages it came from, and a click on a page number opens that page next to the chat, so you can read the original wording yourself. The PDF is read and searched on your device. On a computer that can run AI, the answers are written there too: download the Small or Large model once and they write short answers on your own computer, or Light to find sentences that answer by meaning. On phones and older devices our server AI writes the answers by default, in your language, from the passages that match your question; only those passages and your question are sent. Without a model, the chat shows the sentences that share your words. Scanned pages are read with OCR first, the same way the conversions read them. Long contracts, manuals, papers and reports work well: ask for a date, a figure, a clause or a definition instead of scrolling for it.

Why your files stay private

Most chat-with-PDF services upload your whole document to a server. Here the PDF is read and searched in your browser and never leaves your device. On a computer that can run AI, nothing is sent at all. On phones and older devices, server AI receives only your question and the few passages that answer it, which aren't stored or used to train AI, and you can choose On this device instead. Nopload keeps no copy.

Chat with PDF: common questions

Where do the answers come from?
Only from the PDF you added. Each answer lists the pages it used, so you can open them and check. When nothing in the document fits your question, the chat says it couldn't find it instead of guessing.
Do I need to download a model?
On a computer that can run AI, a download gives written answers: Small or Large write them, and Light, a small download, matches by meaning. Without one, the chat shows the sentences that match your words. On phones and older devices server AI writes answers with no download. Each model downloads from this site once, then works offline.
Can it read scanned PDFs?
Yes. Pages that are pictures of text are read with OCR on your device before you ask anything, so a scanned contract or letter can be searched and quoted like any other document.
Can I trust the answers?
Treat them as pointers. Matched sentences are quoted from the document as they are. An answer written by AI, on our server or on your device, can miss nuance or get a detail wrong, which is why it always shows its pages: check those for anything that matters.
Can I chat with several PDFs at once?
Not yet: the chat reads one document at a time. To ask about several, merge them into one PDF first with Merge PDF, then add the merged file here.
