How to use Split PDF
- 01Choose the PDF you want to split. Its page count appears as soon as it opens, so you can plan the ranges.
- 02Pick how to split: custom ranges like 1-3, 4, 5-8, a fixed number of pages per file, a maximum size per file in KB or MB, or the file's bookmarks. A line under the options shows the files you'll get. Ranges can also be joined into one PDF.
- 03Press Split PDF. Each part is named after the original and its page numbers. Download them one by one, or all together as a ZIP.
About Split PDF
Split PDF breaks one document into several smaller ones. Pick exact ranges such as chapters or invoices, cut the file every few pages, or let it fill each part up to a size you set, which helps when an email or upload form only accepts attachments under a limit. The pages themselves are copied unchanged, so nothing is re-rendered or loses quality.
Why your files stay private
The document is split by code that runs in your browser, so its pages are never uploaded anywhere. Splitting a contract, a bank statement or a medical record is as private as opening it on your own computer, and the parts exist only on your device until you choose to share them.
Split PDF: common questions
- How do I write page ranges?
- Separate ranges with commas. “1-3, 5, 8-” gives three files: pages 1 to 3, page 5 alone, and page 8 to the end. Numbers past the last page are ignored.
- How does splitting by file size work?
- Pages are added to a part in order until the next page would take it over your limit, then a new part starts. Fonts and images that several pages share count once per part. A single page that is larger than the limit on its own still gets its own file, and with compression allowed its images are compressed until it fits, if they can be.
- Can I pull a few ranges into one new PDF?
- Yes. Turn on “Merge all ranges into one PDF” and the ranges you list are saved together, in the order you typed them, as a single file.
- Do links and bookmarks survive a split?
- Links that point to pages inside the same part keep working. Links to pages that ended up in another part are removed, so nobody lands on a missing page.
- Is there a quicker way to grab just a few pages?
- If you would rather click the pages than type numbers, Extract pages shows thumbnails of the whole document and saves the ones you pick.
