How to use Compress PDF
- 01Add one or more PDFs. Each file is compressed on its own.
- 02Pick a level. Recommended suits most files; Extreme makes the smallest file at lower image quality; Light keeps images closest to the original.
- 03Press Compress PDF. You'll see how much smaller each file got before downloading it, or all of them as a ZIP.
About Compress PDF
Compress PDF shrinks files mainly by resizing and re-encoding the images inside them, which is where most of the size of a scanned or photo-heavy PDF lives. Text and vector drawings are kept as they are, so they stay sharp and searchable at any zoom. Repeated fonts and images are stored once, and the file structure is packed tightly.
Why your files stay private
Compression is done by encoders running in your browser, so the PDF is not uploaded to shrink it. That avoids the slowest part of online compressors, sending a large file over the network, and it means files like payslips or scanned IDs never sit on someone else's server.
Compress PDF: common questions
- Why didn't my PDF get smaller?
- Files that are mostly text, or were already optimised, have little left to remove. When the result would not be smaller, Nopload keeps your original instead of handing back a bigger file.
- Will compression make text blurry?
- No. Real text is not turned into an image, so it stays crisp, selectable and searchable. Only pictures are resized and re-encoded, more strongly at higher levels.
- Which level should I choose for email?
- Start with Recommended, which keeps images clear on screen. If the file is still over your mail provider's limit, try Extreme, or split it into parts with Split PDF.
- Can I compress many PDFs at once?
- Yes. Add as many files as you like; each is compressed separately, with its own progress shown, and you can download them together as a ZIP.
- Can I compress the same file twice?
- You can, but a second pass at the same level rarely gains much. Choosing a stronger level on the original file usually gives a better result.
